• Angelina County Science & Technology Fair

  The Science & Technology Fair, to be held at the George H. Henderson, Jr. Exposition Center May 7&8, 2013, is an annual event that allows 6th-12th graders to compete in science and technology-related competitions. The event is a project of the Leadership Lufkin class and relies on sponsors and volunteers to be successful. The fair is a cooperative venture between Angelina County schools and its teachers, the Chamber, and local businesses. It began in 1998 and has grown each year. Approximately 1,000 students participated in 5 events at the 2012 fair with scholarships awarded to qualifying students.

• Texas State Forest Festival

  The Angelina County Chamber of Commerce began the Texas State Forest Festival in 1938 and was held as an annual county fair event until 1953. With the existing Chamber sponsoring the Youth Fair as part of the event, the Texas State Forest Festival was held on 30+ acres where Lufkin High School is currently located, and drew crowds reaching 8000! In 1984, the Chamber board revived and revised the Texas State Forest Festival as an annual event and merged its activities with the Southern Hushpuppy Olympics in May, 1985. The Texas State Forest Festival moved to its September date in 1988. Currently, the Texas State Forest Festival draws crowds approaching 30,000 and generates a net profit of $60,000 per year" a tremendous accomplishment for an event less than thirty years old! Annually, the Texas State Forest Festival requires over 300 volunteers working about 2500 hours to stage the event and continues to become one of the premier annual events in East Texas! Old favorites to the festival that will return once again include the Lumberjack Show, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Swine Racers, and the Southern Hushpuppy Championships. Also, don’t miss the Children’s Festival, “Scout Fair,” Loblolly Texas Old Mill Town, a new car display, and the East Texas Cheerleading Championships.
