  The Clayton Chamber of Commerce's (CCOC) Clayton Harvest Festival has roots dating back to 1951 when the Clayton Merchant's Association (now CCOC) hosted Clayton's first festival, the Cotton Festival. Thousands attended the festival each year, which ultimately included street dances, parades, milking contests, and greased pig races.

  The Cotton Festival gave way to the Soybean Festival in the early 1970s as the area's industry changed. The Soybean Festival incorporated a beauty pageant and crowned the North Carolina Soybean Queen each year. In 1986 after the Soybean plant closed in Clayton, CCOC held the first Clayton Harvest Festival.

  Across the United States and the world, many entrepreneurs, including minorities and low income generators, lack the training and resources necessary to be successful. LaunchJOCO is a CCOC initiative supporting and developing entrepreneurs and small businesses in Johnston County.

  Modeled after the LaunchMyCity program offered in NC and across the country, this program is a proven recipe for bringing success to new entrepreneurship ventures to the underserved in our county.

  This sponsorship offers you the opportunity to collaborate with several county agencies to build a new legacy in Johnston County!

  Your company will be visible not only to the students, but also in the press and to all the leading agencies in the project including Clayton Chamber of Commerce, Town of Clayton, Rotary programs across Johnston County, Johnston Community College, Johnston County Alumni Association of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and the Racial Equality Coalition. 

  This program will provide access to LaunchNOW for entrepreneurs who have a business concept or LaunchNEXT for established businesses generating income and looking to strengthen and grow in scale.  LaunchNEXT includes a 14 week Business Training/Entrepreneurship Academy. Upon successful completion of the training, the participants will then have access to micro-loans and a minimum of 6 months of business mentoring and networking support.

• 2024 Student To Entrepreneur Program ( S.T.E.P.)

  The Clayton Chamber of Commerce Students to Entrepreneurs Program (STEP) is a year-long program that teaches High School Sophomores and Juniors how to develop their own unique product, service, or idea.

  STEP guides high school students through the process of starting and running a legitimate business over the course of a full year.

  Each participating student will be paired with a mentor who helps them develop their project throughout the year. At the end of the program, each student will have the opportunity to present their product/service/idea to a panel of judges for a chance to win one of three cash prizes.

  The entire program will culminate with a STEP Showcase at the 2024 Harvest Festival at which a People's Choice Award will be given.
